Jon Ruben confessed to 17 offences at the courthouse on the end of the week

An individual who laced treats with sedative and distributed them to minors at a summer program in the region has confessed to sexual offences against two boys aged nine and 10.

Jon Ruben was arrested after eight children and an older person fell ill at the facility in July.

The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.

Yet, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was involving a young boy.

Ruben was held in detention before a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, detailed Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.

She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer program which he operated.

The man played a "treat game" with the children, Mrs Prior said, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the young males "over an extended period", and minors had previously fallen ill the following morning.

She explained the defendant had been able to explain this over a long period as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had concerns in recently.

The prosecutor added: "This year his family member had concerns about the situation, justifiably.

"They decided to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor stated objects including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were located, and his family member notified the police about his concerns.

She said the defendant continued to engage in the "sweet game" with six boys that evening - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the next day.

"The police had not responded by that stage," she continued.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, had stated that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the incident.

The legal representative said the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson called the authorities a second time.

She explained Ruben then conducted the "candy game" in a room of five children.
